Lochore Welfare was founded in 1934 and was one of several junior teams in the area. However the club didn’t have long to wait before picking up their first piece of silverware. In 1938 Lochore won three trophies, the Fife Cup, the West Fife Cup and the Mitchell Cup. The following year they won the Fife league for the first time.
The most successful period in the club’s history came during the sixties winning the Fife League three times in succession, 1961-62, 1962-63 and 1963-64. As well as winning the Fife Cup, the West Fife Cup, the Cowdenbeath Cup, the Daily Express Cup, the Mitchell Cup and the Rosslyn Trophy.
The club can boast of giving some football’s talented players their first footing on the ladder to success and stardom. Willie Johnston could often be seen playing on the wing for Lochore before going on to play for Rangers and Scotland. Ian Porterfield, whose greatest moment of glory was scoring the winning goal for Sunderland in the FA Cup final. Craig Levein was another Lochore old boy who went on to play for Scotland and Hearts and most recently Colin Cameron.
Other Lochore players who went onto bigger and better things include Tommy Callaghan with Celtic, Willie Gibson, Peter Oliver, Cammy Fraser, Arthur Mann and Willie Benvie at Hearts. James Logie with Arsenal, C. Anderson at Blackburn, Garry Patterson with Dundee.
Garry returned to the club as a player then as player/manager led the club to their first success in over 20 years when Lochore beat Kelty Hearts to win the Kingdom Kegs Cup in 2003.
